Steve Filippis – Vice President of Facility Operations
Steve Filippis, like the rest of his family, grew up in the family business sweeping floors or making legs with his grandfather, Tony Filippis, Sr., the founder of Wright & Filippis. Steve’s fondest memory growing up was going to the office in Detroit with his grandfather and picking up a dozen White Castle hamburgers for breakfast. Steve continued working there through his teenage years where he is proud to say he delivered hospital beds and wheelchairs from the first Wright & Filippis delivery truck. His first management position was at the same office in Detroit, which he ran for 10 years before being promoted to Director of Facility Operations.
In 1988, he opened his first office in Toledo. During the next decade Steve spent most of his time hiring new managers, opening new locations and moving these locations to larger offices to accommodate our steady growth.
In 2008, Steve was promoted to VP of Facility Operations and now oversees all 38 Wright & Filippis facilities. Steve describes his job as managing managers, evaluating facility profitability and efficiencies while ensuring our staff is providing high quality clinical care and customer service. Steve graduated from Kimball High School in Royal Oak, where he grew up and still lives today. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Health Education from Central Michigan University. Steve attended Northwestern University for prosthetics and has been certified for nearly 20 years. Steve is also actively involved with the American Prosthetic and Orthotic Association where he was a member of the Government Relations Committee for several years. Steve also served as a Board Member for the Michigan Prosthetic & Orthotic Association and is currently a member of the Board of Directors for Wright & Filippis.
Wright & Filippis is truly a family business. Steve enjoys working with all of his siblings and is excited to have two of his children begin working for Wright & Filippis part-time. Steve has been married to his wife Ann for 18 years; they have two sons and one daughter. Steve says his father, Gene Filippis, taught him that we need to take care of our patients and employees like they are our family, because that is a true sign of a successful business.
