Brave Volunteers Took the Plunge for Special Olympics Michigan
Some very brave people came out to support a very special program. They took part in one of the winter season’s most bone chilling events, the Polar Plunge.

In a Polar Plunge the object is simple, raise money, and then plunge into the cold water! Donations are raised by collecting pledges from friends, family, co-workers, neighbors, etc. And they are a great source of support for year-round sports training and athletic competition for the more than 16,000 Special Olympics Michigan athletes. The Polar Plunge has taken place in Michigan for 13 years and is made possible by the Law Enforcement Torch Run® (LETR), a group of law enforcement officers and corrections department employees dedicated to raising funds and awareness for Special Olympics Michigan Inc. (SOMI).

The annual LETR® Polar Plunge series is known for its crazy costume contest and honors the plunger with the most creative costume or best jump into the water with the Golden Plunger Award. So, you have until February 2011 to get up the courage to take your plunge. If a Polar Plunge isn’t quite your thing but you want to raise money for SOMI you can earn a “Too Chicken to Plunge” t-shirt, with a minimum of $50 in pledges or donations.
