PARALYMPIC ATHLETE TO TEACH AMPUTEES RUNNING SKILLS
MADISON HEIGHTS – Amputees in Michigan will be treated to a rare opportunity on June 27 when w Brian Frasure visits Madison Heights to demonstrate exercise training and running techniques.
Wright & Filippis®, a local home healthcare provider, will host the training clinic with Frasure from 1-4 p.m. at the Madison High School track (915 E. Eleven Mile Rd., Madison Heights).
“One of the greatest challenges for an amputee is learning how to use their new leg to run again,” says Ken Eick, Prosthetic Manager at Wright & Filippis. “With Brian’s help, our patients will be instructed by an expert how to properly use their prosthetic device to transition from a quick walk to jogging, and even sprinting.”
The goal of the clinic is to demonstrate running and training techniques for amputees and give them the opportunity to work with a Paralympic champion. Brian will be using his custom prosthetic foot, worn by a large majority of professional athletes – the Cheetah®, and introduce its superior functionality to the amputees, physical therapists and physicians in attendance.
Brian Frasure is one of the world’s premier Paralympic sprinters, a motivational speaker, a certified prosthetist for Ossur, and a true inspiration to athletes around the world. His dominance has gone unmatched for more than a decade. He has set several world records, won a multitude of medals and his performances have permanently elevated the level of Paralympic competition.
Hosting the event is Wright & Filippis, a Michigan-based healthcare company specializing in prosthetics, orthotics, respiratory care services, and home medical equipment and supplies. Founded in 1944, Wright & Filippis has 34 locations and is the state’s largest full-service home healthcare provider.
