Aerosol Therapy Safety Precautions |
By using the following safety rules, you will create a safe environment when you use your nebulizer.
Be sure to have a functioning smoke detector and fire extinguisher in your home and remember to change the batteries regularly.
ELECTRICAL – Nebulizers should not be plugged into an extension cord, multi-outlet adapter, power strip, or into an outlet or circuit that has other major appliances plugged into it. Doing so can create a fire hazard, result in blown fuses or circuit breakers, or create possible damage to the device.
SIDE EFFECTS – If you experience any of the following symptoms, stop your treatment and rest for 5 to 10 minutes. If the symptoms go away, continue your treatment but at a slower pace. If the physical symptoms persist, consult your physician.
- Dizziness or shakiness
- Nausea
- Chest pain or palpitations (noticeable heart beat)
- Uncontrollable cough
STORAGE – Store the medication as directed when not in use, some are sensitive to sunlight and temperature. Follow the directions on the medication label and refrigerate if necessary. Check with your pharmacist to learn how long the medication can be safely used after being opened.
SMOKING – For your health and safety, as well as keeping the equipment in good working order, smoking should not be permitted in the same room where the nebulizer is in use or stored.
