Cylinder Oxygen Troubleshooting Guide

In the case of any problems, use your alternate oxygen system while attempting to troubleshoot. If a solution cannot be reached, notify Wright & Filippis immediately at (800) 482-0222.  This service is available 24 hours a day.

TROUBLE
PROBABLE CAUSE
REMEDY
No oxygen coming from cannula.
Empty cylinder.
Check pressure gauge for oxygen contents. If the cylinder is empty, remove the regulator and attach to a full cylinder.
Cylinder valve is closed or liter control knob or dial is off.
Check the cylinder valve with the wrench to make sure it is open. Check the flow control knob or dial to make sure that it is set to the prescribed setting.
Faulty regulator.
Call Wright & Filippis immediately.
Loose connections.
Check all connections.
Faulty cannula.
Remove the cannula and check the tubing for kinks or obstructions and replace if needed.
Decreased awareness of oxygen flow.
Place the end of your cannula in a small glass of water and look for a steady flow of bubbles. If you do not see any bubbles coming from the cannula, check the full length of your tubing to ensure there are no kinks or obstructions.

Oxygen cylinder hisses loudly and is leaking oxygen.
Regulator is not attached tightly.
Turn off the cylinder valve with the wrench. Check and retighten the connection between the regulator and the cylinder.
Faulty or missing washer.
Replace the washer. If necessary, remove the old washer but do not use any sharp instrument as this may scratch the regulator and cause an additional leak.
Faulty regulator.
Call Wright & Filippis immediately.
