Operating the Concentrator |
To view video demonstration of Instruction Guide, Oxygen Concentrator.
STEP 1 – Work with your delivery technician to assess the residence and determine what will be the best location for the unit to be placed, based on your situation and lifestyle. The best location will be central to your primary living space, near an electrical outlet and 10 feet away from all heat sources.
STEP 2 – Attach a barbed nipple adapter (and chrome elbow, if needed) or humidifier bottle to the concentrator’s threaded oxygen outlet.
A humidifier bottle is only recommended if your flow rate is 4 liters per minute (lpm) or above.
• Fill your humidifier bottle to a level between the minimum and maximum marks as indicated on the bottle, using ONLY distilled water.
• Tighten the lid squarely and securely to the bottle in order to create an effective seal.
• Attach the threaded adapter on the lid of the humidifier bottle to the concentrator’s threaded oxygen outlet (or chrome elbow) and tighten securely.
• For complete humidifier bottle care instructions, see Care of Humidifier Bottle .

STEP 3 – Attach the appropriate oxygen tubing to the barbed nipple adapter or the oxygen outlet of the humidifier bottle. Connect the nasal cannula to the tubing using a tubing connector, or a water trap if using a humidifier bottle. Total length of tubing and nasal cannula CANNOT exceed 57 feet in length.
STEP 4 – With the concentrator plugged in, turn the power switch on. An audible alarm will sound for a few seconds while the machine performs a self test.
STEP 5 – To adjust the flow rate, turn the flow selector knob until the indicator ball is centered at the prescribed number on the flow meter. Do not change the flow rate without instructions from your physician.
STEP 6 – Fit the nasal cannula to your face so that it is comfortable.
• Insert the two prongs of the cannula into your nostrils, making sure that the prongs curve downward into your nostrils.
• Slide the tubing over and behind each ear.
• Adjust the tubing to fit comfortably under your chin by sliding the adjuster upward. Maintain some slack; do not adjust too tightly.
STEP 7 – Follow your physician’s prescription regarding the daily hours of oxygen use.
