Swinging into Summer
June 3, 2002 marked the 18th Annual Gene Filippis Memorial Golf Benefit. The outing is a fundraising effort to benefit two non-profit organizations. In past years, the Rehabilitation Research Center has always been a recipient of a portion of the proceeds. This year, the RRC once again generously donated their portion to the Athletes with Disabilities Hall of Fame. The remaining proceeds will benefit the Purtan Family Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation.
The Purtan Family Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation - established by WOMC Radio's Dick Purtan, his wife Gail, and their family - is dedicated to finding the cause and prevention of ovarian cancer and the pursuit of a cure for the disease.
The Athletes with Disabilities Hall of Fame is a non-profit organization, initially operating through the RRC. Proceeds from the golf benefit will be used to help future funding of the Hall of Fame as well as to educate the public about sports for the disabled. The Hall's stated mission is to honor Michigan's athletes with disabilities who have demonstrated achievement in sports and are positive role models in the community, as well as to educate the public about sports for the disabled.
We would like to thank all of the sponsors for this year's golf benefit for their support. We look forward to another great event next year!
