Wright & Filippis Shoots...& Scores!

Everyone had a great time playing basketball and raising money for two important organizations.
Picture a high school gym, the stands filled with cheering fans, players racing up and down the court, basket after basket raising the score – but the players aren't running as they're dribbling the ball - they're in wheelchairs. That was the scene at the two wheelchair basketball games that Wright & Filippis sponsored this spring.

The first game, held in April, paired the Flint Flying Eagles, an active wheelchair basketball team, with the Beaumont Hospital staff. The proceeds from that game went to the Community Connection Program – a partnership between Beaumont Hospital and Oakland County Parks. This program provides a local referral system for leisure and recreational activities for adults with physical disabilities.

The program offers recreational therapy, family support groups, and recreational clinics including arts and crafts, golf, bowling, and exercise.

The second game, Hoops for the Troops, was held in May. That event raised money for the Michigan Military Moms – a Dearborn-based organization dedicated to supporting their sons and daughters serving in the United States Military.

The organization, founded in July 2002, gives support to all branches of the military both in times of peace as well as during conflict. The Dearborn Police and Fire departments proved to be stiff competition for the Flint Flying Eagles.

Both games, in addition to being a great success for the organizations involved, provided family fun for those who attended. Half-time contests and a raffle added to the excitement of the two evenings.
