A Gift for Ghana
A 40-foot container filled to the brim with orthotic, prosthetic, hospital and surgical supplies will be making a trip overseas to Ghana, West Africa. The $250,000 of equipment donated by Wright & Filippis, its suppliers, and Oakwood Hospital is being sent through the FOCOS (Foundation of Complex and Orthopedic Spine) Organization. Once in Ghana, the hospital and surgical supplies will be distributed to Korle Bu Hospital in Accra, to be used by WF orthotists and FOCOS physicians when they make a return trip to Ghana in February. The orthotic and prosthetic supplies are for patient care and will be given to the Ministry of Health, and will be used by orthotists and prosthetists. Also included in the donation are several devices and samples to be used for teaching programs. Since there are 18 million people living in Ghana, and only 20 orthotists and prosthetists, Wright & Filippis is working to develop an orthotic and prosthetic program to fill the demand.
