Letter from the Prez

For nearly 60 years, Wright & Filippis has been committed to the principle, "First To Serve...First To Care" Keeping this in mind, we have made it a priority to stay on the forefront of new technology for the benefit of our patients. This new technology represents increased confidence and a vital improvement in patients' lives.

A remarkable new microprocessor-controlled knee, called the C-leg, is now the innovative approach to using a prosthetic leg for above-knee amputees. It monitors their movements, 50 times per second, and constantly readjusts itself to allow the amputee optimal stability during the gait (step) cycle. In essence, the C-leg imitates an individual’s natural walk and creates a smooth, balanced movement. As of January, high-tech items like the C-leg are being covered by more insurances, allowing more patients to receive these user-friendly products.

The latest discovery in our Lifts, Elevators and Ramps department is a new invention that conforms to the user. The AccesStair is a functional product combining a stairway and a vertical lift into one unit, perfect for when universal access is required in public buildings. It is normally used as a stairway, but when someone needing assistance approaches, the stairs retract to prepare the lifting platform. It provides the functions of a stairway and a lift in the same space.

Innovative products like these improve patients' lives, maximizing their independence. Staying ahead of essential new technology allows Wright & Filippis to continue our commitment to quality patient care.
