20th Annual Gene Filippis Memorial Golf Benefit
June 7, 2004 marked the 20th Annual Gene Filippis Memorial Golf Benefit. The outing is a fundraising effort to benefit two non-profit organizations. This year's beneficiaries are the Athletes with Disabilities Hall of Fame and Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan.
Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan (RIM) will use all donated funds for renovation and expansion of the hospital's existing facilities, as well as a new Spinal Cord Injury Recovery Center in Novi. This recovery center focuses on benchmarking "best practices" in global spinal cord recovery methods and provides highly specialized, expert teams for aggressive rehabilitation of spinal cord injury patients. RIM treats more spinal cord injury patients than any hospital in Michigan and is considered one of the premiere treatment facilities in the world. The new Spinal Cord Recovery Center will be the first of its kind in the U.S.
The Athletes with Disabilities Hall of Fame's stated mission is to honor Michigan's athletes with disabilities who have demonstrated achievement in sports and are positive role models in the community, as well as to educate the public about sports for the disabled.
