Three Special Groups Share Proceeds from the Gene Filippis Memorial Golf Benefit
Attendees of the June 6 event at Great Oaks Country Club spent the day on a gorgeous golf course, helping to raise funds for the American Diabetes Association, Saginaw Community Foundation Boundless Playground, and Athletes with Disabilities Hall of Fame. American Diabetes Association - The proceeds will primarily be used to support Project Power - a year-round educational program of the 's African American Program. Its mission is to increase awareness about the seriousness and prevalence of diabetes among African Americans, to emphasize the importance of early detection and treatment through regular visits with healthcare providers, and to utilize preventative measures in communities at risk for diabetes. Saginaw Community Foundation Boundless Playground - This organization seeks to build playgrounds that can be enjoyed by both children with disabilities and their families. The proceeds from the Golf Benefit will help with the cost of building a Boundless Playground in the Saginaw area. The Athletes with Disabilities Hall of Fame will benefit from the golf outing as well. The Hall of Fame's mission is to honor Michigan's athletes with disabilities who have demonstrated achievements in sports and are positive role models in the community. They are also dedicated to educating the public about sports for the disabled. The day included 18 holes of golf, played in a 4-person scramble format. There was a Vegas Hole, contests for the longest drive, closest to the pin, and a hole in one contest in which golfers had a chance to win a convertible Mustang or a trip to Las Vegas. Door prizes were raffled off, and throughout dinner, guests could acquire some valuable sports memorabilia at our silent auction. We would like to thank all of the sponsors who helped make the day a success:
