Gene Filippis Memorial Golf Benefit
The golf benefit is held in memory of Eugene (Gene) Filippis, C.P.O. Gene was a man of vision, devoted to his family, dedicated to his profession, and extremely loyal to his employees. The eldest son of Tony Sr., brother to Nancy (Hakala) and A.J., Gene became president and CEO of Wright & Filippis in 1981. A member of the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists since 1972, Gene also directed the Rehabilitation Research Center (now the Filippis Foundation), which was developed to sponsor a variety of educational programs for those with disabilities. Gene lost his life to cancer in June 1997 at the age of 59 after a lengthy and valiant battle. Gene's compassion, kind heart and listening ear is missed by all who knew him. It offers a multitude of services, programs and education that allow the disadvantaged and physically challenged the independence to see their dreams turn to reality. Athletes with Disabilities Hall of Fame The Hall of Fame's mission is to honor athletes with disabilities who have demonstrated achievement in sports and who are positive role models in the community, as well as to educate the public about sports for the disabled. Boys & Girls Club The Boys & Girls Club of South Oakland County reaches children at an early age to provide positive activities and encouragement. Boys & Girls Clubs provide a compelling alternative to negative youth influences and strive to inspire young people to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens. American Lung Association For over 20 years, the American Lung Association of Grand Rapids, Michigan has worked to fight lung disease by helping people quit smoking, funding research, improving indoor and outdoor air quality, and educating millions about asthma. Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) MDA is an organization which combats muscular dystrophy and diseases of the nervous and muscular systems by funding research, providing medical and community services, and educating health professionals and the general public. |
