Journey of a Lifetime

At the end of summer 2006, 2,400 participants set out on a 60 mile journey with hopes of getting one step closer to a cure for breast cancer. This journey was the Susan G. Koman, Breast Cancer 3-Day. As the sun rose over the lake at Stoney Creek Metropark, one of our own, Adrienne Pandori, was a participant at the event. When not attending Michigan State University, Adrienne is a Customer Service Representative at our Warren facility.

Day One of the journey started at Stoney Creek where the group traveled 22 miles through Shelby Township, Utica and Sterling Heights to end up at their campsite at Carlton Middle School at 15 Mile and Van Dyke.

On Day Two, the walkers followed their route from Carlton through the cities of Roseville, St. Clair Shores and Fraser with hundreds of supporters at stations to cheer them on, cool them down, and offer them popsicles, cookies or some kind of fruit to get them through the 22-mile journey.

Finally, on Day Three, the tired group left camp and walked their way into Clinton Township and Mount Clemens. With their final destination of Metro Beach Metropark only 17 miles away, supporters were cheering them every step of the way. Shortly after crossing the finish line, Adrienne admitted, "This is the most challenging feat I have ever taken on, but I knew I had to do it." After meeting some women with this disease and walking with some of the survivors, she knew raising her pledge of $2,200 and walking 60 miles was nothing compared to what they have gone through – she also knew she would do it again in a heartbeat.
