Filippis and Nancy Hakala.

Welcoming more than 1,400 guests, Wright & Filippis held its 27th annual Wheelchair Daze Picnic this past August. Held once again at Independence Oaks County Park in Clarkston, people of all ages with any form of disability were treated to a free picnic hosted by more than 200 Wright & Filippis employees and their family members. The event included carnival games, boat rides, music, lunch, and much more.

During the picnic, Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson and Dan Stencil, Oakland County Parks Executive Officer, were on hand to formally dedicate a new Therapeutic Garden in honor of the late Tony Filippis Sr. Like many of the features at the Twin Chimneys picnic area at Independence Oaks, the new garden has been designed to be accessible to persons in wheelchairs, and it will serve as a living tribute to the tremendous contributions made by Tony Sr. on behalf of persons with disabilities.
