Wheelchair Sports Camp
By Claudia Brewer

The three day Wheelchair Sports Camp, held at the Parks and Recreation facilities in Southfield, hosted approximately 20 athletes between the ages of 6 and 18. Athletes participated in quad rugby, sit volleyball, basketball, football, tennis, swimming, floor hockey, handcycling and much more. Wright & Filippis helped to provide a quality camp by donating t-shirts for all the campers and staff as well as a monetary donation.

The camp is designed to give young athletes an opportunity to try a variety of sports and to make them aware of what is available to them. But most of all, it is a place for kids and young adults to have fun and meet new friends.

On the final day of camp, parents were invited to a luncheon where they learned about wheelchair maintenance, sport opportunities for their children and the Paralympics.

Planning has already begun for next year's camp and with kids on the list for next year's registration, I think it's safe to say that the camp was a success!
